Ocean Keeper Club
Today’s children are tomorrow’s ocean guardians. Our children hold the power to shape the future of our oceans. But children can’t protect what they don’t know.

The Ocean Keeper Club (OKC) is a signature ocean education program by the Coral Triangle Center (CTC) that invites children aged 9-12 to explore, understand, and care for the ocean in meaningful ways. Designed as a year-long journey, OKC introduces young learners to the wonders and challenges of marine ecosystems through experiences that are both educational and fun.
Originally developed as an online program during the COVID-19 pandemic, OKC has since grown into a monthly, in-person extracurricular activity hosted at the CTC Center for Marine Conservation. Over the course of the program, participants take part in a series of themed sessions that explore marine habitats and conservation issues, from coral reefs and mangroves to endangered species, marine pollution, and sustainable ocean practices.
Learning in OKC goes beyond the classroom. Sessions are delivered through a mix of interactive talks, outdoor activities, games, quizzes, and creative expression, allowing children to learn by doing and to connect emotionally with the ocean.
Through this experience, OKC aims to inspire the next generation of ocean stewards, children who not only understand the importance of marine conservation, but who are also confident to share their knowledge and take positive action in their daily lives, schools, and communities.

Our Impact
Since its launch in 2022, the Ocean Keeper Club has made significant strides*:
- Reached 2,551 students across 23 schools in Bali and beyond
- Achieved a 45% improvement in student understanding based on assessments.
- Built lasting partnerships with 6 public elementary schools in Sanur for regular participation
- Collaborated with foundations to include children from orphanages, ensuring inclusive access to marine education

Looking Forward
CTC envisions The Ocean Keeper Club as a key driver in expanding ocean literacy and marine awareness among elementary and high school students in Indonesia. Our scaling-up strategy includes:
- Reaching 2,000 public elementary schools in Bali
- Extending the program to other marine protected areas (MPAs) and coastal communities where CTC works
- Training local teachers on ocean and marine conservation topics
- Working with the Ministry of Education to incorporate ocean literacy into Indonesia’s official school curriculum
- Distributing ocean education materials in schools across MPAs in Indonesia and the wider Coral Triangle region in collaboration with partners.
Your involvement and support help us bring this program to more communities and create lasting change. Let us work together towards a generation of informed and motivated young leaders who care deeply about protecting our oceans.
